Do you subscribe to feng shui beliefs? Or are you one of the discipline’s critics who consider it as nothing more than a pseudoscience?
What is feng shui about anyway? Feng shui is an art of positioning objects, mostly buildings, graves and furniture, so that you create positive energy, harmony and balance in your environment. Proponents claim that the existence of balanced or imbalanced energy holds significant effect on wealth, health and personal relationships. You might find it queer how inanimate objects should have any such consequence to your life.
Do you recall elementary science lessons? You were taught early on that every conceivable object, be it in the form of liquid or solid, is made up of moving molecules. Isn’t it sensible to say that you are indeed surrounded by energy and that this may actually impact the kind of life you are living?
But you don’t have to be a proponent of feng shui to know that the kind of environment you are living in affects your moods in serious ways. You also know that the type of mood you’re in affect your dealings with other people. And how you deal with other people holds a lot of implication on how different aspects of your life are faring. More so, your mood effects the way you perform be it in work or in your personal life.
And you are well aware of how the simple act of surrounding yourself with beautiful things makes a difference. A cheerful and comforting surrounding may be all that you need to start the day right. It may be all that you need to drive away the gloominess and negativity you tend to dwell in sometimes.
If you feel that your home is not conducive enough a place to feel the comfort and serenity you are craving for, it’s high time you do some improvements. You don’t have to make any major redo. A simple clean-out, repainting and change of furniture should do the trick.
You can jumpstart your home improvement efforts by getting rid of unwanted clutter. Be willing to let go of things that you don’t need at all. Keeping them is not worth the mess and confusion. Also, you must get rid of any unsightly deterioration. You should not neglect chipping paints and ghastly moulds, especially when you can actually afford the simple repairs needed to turn things around.
More so, you should try and rearrange your furniture so that they seem to create better balance and are more pleasing to look at. Or better yet, you can replace them with better ones. Make sure you have a clear picture of how you want the place to look like, lest you end up buying pieces that don’t match well. Also, you must take note of their placements. You must arrange them in a way that does not look cluttered.
Your goal is simple and that is to try and design a place that will make you want to get up in the morning to face the world with all cheerfulness and positivity and to want to come back home to a relaxed and peaceful environment. And yes, your choice of furniture and how you arrange them actually play a role on whether you will achieve this goal or not.
